Blinc-UK

Tenants contents insurance

Contents insurance for your new home, sorted in minutes

Optional tenants contents insurance from a panel of leading UK insurers, for any rented home in the UK. £10,000 contents cover and tenant liability as standard, your price in about two minutes, paid monthly by Direct Debit, and you can cancel any time.

Your things, replaced new for old

£10,000 of cover for furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes, jewellery and everything else you keep at home. Your landlord's insurance covers the building, not any of it.

Your deposit, protected

Tenant liability up to £10,000 for accidental damage to your landlord's fixtures, fittings and furniture. The spilt wine on their carpet is a claim on your policy, not a deduction from your deposit.

Any rented home in the UK, at any time

Just been referenced by Blinc? The offer is waiting for you, with your price already worked out. Already moved in, or renting somewhere Blinc didn't reference? Create a free account and get a quote for any rented home in the UK.

What's covered as standard

Your things, and your landlord's, from the day you move in

A good rule of thumb: if you turned your home upside down, everything that fell out is your contents. Your landlord's insurance covers the building, not any of it.

£10,000 contents cover

Furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes, jewellery and everything else you keep at home, replaced new for old after fire, flood, storm, escape of water or theft.

Tenant liability up to £10,000

Accidental damage you cause to your landlord's fixtures, fittings and furniture. The spilt wine on their carpet is a claim on your policy, not a deduction from your deposit.

Working from home

Computers, printers and other business equipment you use at home are covered, as is accidental damage to TVs, audio and computer equipment, mirrors and ceramic hobs.

Away from home in the UK

Belongings temporarily away from your home anywhere in the UK, for up to 90 days at a time.

Freezer contents

Food spoiled by a change of temperature in your freezer.

Documents before you buy

Your quote names the insurer, and the policy wording and Insurance Product Information Document are shown before you pay anything.

Optional extras

Add what suits you, with the price difference shown

Add full accidental damage

Spills, drops and knocks to all your belongings, not just the electrical items covered as standard. One of the most common reasons people claim.

Add legal expenses

Legal costs for tenancy disputes with your landlord, employment disputes, personal injury and faulty goods, up to £100,000 per claim, with a legal helpline.

Add belongings away from home

Phones, laptops, bikes, bags and jewellery anywhere in the world, up to £2,500 per item unless listed individually.

How it works

Three steps, none of them a form you've already filled in

  1. 01

    Tell us about your home

Follow the offer from your reference, or sign in to your free Blinc account and choose contents insurance. If Blinc has just referenced you, the price on screen is already worked out from the details you've given, so there's nothing to retype.

  2. 02

Check the cover and your price

Confirm the home you're moving to, pick a start date and choose any extras, each with its price difference shown. It takes about two minutes, and the policy documents are there to read before you decide.

  3. 03

    Pay monthly by Direct Debit

Choose the day of the month your payment is taken. Your documents are emailed to you, you have 14 days to change your mind, and you can cancel at any time after that.

Students

Cover for your laptop, phone and everything you're bringing to uni

Tell us you're studying or living in halls and the offer is written for student life: your room and everything in it, your laptop and study kit at home, and tenant liability for the landlord's carpet as well as your own things. Add cover away from home for your phone and laptop in lectures, the library and the bus home after a night out.

Good to know

  • Pick the full replacement value of everything you own. Being underinsured can reduce what a claim pays out.
  • Jewellery, watches and works of art worth more than £2,500 each need to be listed individually, which the quote asks about.
  • Everyday wear and tear and damage caused by pets aren't covered, and cover is restricted once the home has been left empty for more than 60 days in a row.
  • The policy wording and the Insurance Product Information Document are the binding documents. Everything on this page is a summary.

Monthly, by Direct Debit

One monthly price including Insurance Premium Tax, taken on the day of the month you choose. No annual lump sum, no card details stored.

14 days to change your mind, then cancel any time

Cancel within 14 days of receiving your documents for a full refund. After that, because you pay monthly, you can cancel whenever you like.

Your bank details stay with the insurer

Your Direct Debit details go straight to the insurer to set up your policy. Blinc never keeps a copy.

Questions

Contents insurance, explained

Do I need contents insurance if my landlord has insurance?
Your landlord's insurance covers the building, not what's inside it. A good rule of thumb: if you turned your home upside down, everything that fell out is your contents, and none of it is covered by your landlord's policy. Tenant liability cover also protects you if you accidentally damage their fixtures, fittings or furniture.
Do I have to buy it?
No. Contents insurance is optional and is not a condition of your tenancy or your referencing application. If you're offered it after a Blinc reference, say no thanks and we won't ask again on screen.
Who is the insurer?
Your quote comes from a panel of leading UK insurers, and the one that quotes you is named on your price and on your documents. The insurance is arranged by Paymentshield Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
How much does it cost, and can I cancel?
It depends on your home and the cover you choose. You'll see a monthly price, including Insurance Premium Tax, before you type anything, and the exact price once you've confirmed a few details. You have 14 days from receiving your documents to cancel for a full refund, and because you pay monthly you can cancel at any time after that.
I wasn't referenced by Blinc. Can I still get a quote?
Yes. Create a free Blinc account, open Products and choose contents insurance. You'll answer a short set of questions about the home you're renting and see your price in about two minutes. Cover is for any rented home in the UK.
What happens at renewal?
Each year, at the anniversary of your start date, the panel is searched again and you're moved to the cheapest insurer available. You're told at least 21 days beforehand if your price or insurer is changing.
What isn't covered?
Everyday wear and tear and damage caused by pets aren't covered, and cover is restricted once the home has been left empty for more than 60 days in a row. Items worth more than the single-item limit need to be listed individually. The policy wording and Insurance Product Information Document set out the full terms, and both are shown before you pay.
